Hey Cary
I have big splits in my BEAD tuned bass. Really happy with the sound of them, but I have a problem...
You know that point when blending pickups where the sound opens up when you roll of the volume of one of the pickups.
Well, on my bass:
with the bridge pup favoured
- the B&E strings sound tight and fat and are easy to EQ into the mix
- the A&D strings on the other hand are honky and tin
with the neck pup favoured
- the B&E strings sound awesome solo but are to much rumble in the mix
- the A&D strings on the other hand are fat and really supportive below the guitars
Is there a way to wire the pickups, i.e. the four coils of the big splits, in such a way that I can favour the neck pup for the A&D strings and the bridge pup for the B&E strings?
Maybe with a push/pull on the blend? Or just hardwired that way with a single volume knob.
Thanks for reading
Sincerely
Willem Leijssen

There's really no easy way to do what you want. It would be quite complicated and you'd have to hook four conductor wire to the Big Splits to gain access to each coil independently. Then figuiring out how to blend them with conventionally available pots could get even more crazy.
Do you feel there might be something wrong with the pickups? If so let us know and we'll take care of you as quickly as we can. |

I just don't feel the A&D strings have enough authority.
But I don't think that there is anything wrong with the pickups.
I think it's the nature of the bass itself.
But maybe, it's my amp, my cab, my playing style, ...
Maybe I should use more different settings of the blend knob during songs...
Thanks for your answer Carey. _________________ www.myspace.com/withholdmetal |
